Diocesan Youth Council Nomination/Application
The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is asking Pastors and Coordinators of Youth Ministry in parishes, as well as Principals and High School Campus Ministers to consider high school youth to nominate and apply to the 2020-21 Diocesan Youth Council (DYC). Youth must be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year in 2020-21.
"Comprehensive Ministry with Adolescents; It Takes a Whole Church:
The comprehensive approach is not a single program or recipe for ministry. Rather, it provides a way of integrating ministry with adolescents and their families into the total life and mission of the Church, recognizing that the whole community is responsible for this ministry. The comprehensive approach uses all of our resources as a faith community-- people, ministries, programs-- in a common effort to promote the three goals of the Church's ministry with adolescents.
Goals for Youth Ministry:
Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person."
-Quote from Renewing the Vision a framework for Catholic youth ministry from the USCCB.
A letter was sent out to Youth Ministers, ADs, DREs, and Pastors encouraging a dialogue among these individuals about how they can work together in the parish to encourage sports as ministry, and to engage those in sports with other parish youth ministry opportunities. A copy of the letter and resources are included below.
