Jubilee 2025
Pilgrims of Hope
In his announcement of the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis wrote: “Everyone knows what it is to hope. In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring.”
—Spes non confundi

There are four pilgrimage sites in the Diocese of Columbus for the faithful to visit:
St. Joseph Cathedral, Columbus
The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, Lancaster
Shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the New Evangelization at Holy Name Church, Columbus
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Somerset
A plenary indulgence is available under the usual conditions.
What is a Plenary Indulgence?
Out of a desire to bring complete healing to every sinner, the Church grants indulgences to encourage the faithful in their ongoing journey toward the fullness of God’s love. Indulgences can be for oneself or a soul in Purgatory. Giving of indulgences is like a medicine that heals over time, and a sign of the Church’s vast treasury of grace.
A plenary indulgence is granted once each day of the Jubilee Year to Christ’s faithful when they:
- Visit a pilgrimage site, including outside our diocese.
- Offer prayers at the site.
- Pray for the Holy Father’s intentions by offering at least 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be, and recite the Creed.
- Have an interior disposition of complete detachment from all sin, even venial sin.
- Be truly penitent and compelled by charity as part of your pilgrimage.
For those unable to make a pilgrimage, a plenary indulgence may be obtained by doing works of mercy and penance, including the other conditions above.
A second plenary indulgence may be obtained for the repose of the soul of a deceased person, under the usual conditions.
