Requirements and Responsibilities

1. The applicant must be a practicing Catholic male student or graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School.

2. The applicant understands that the Knights of the Chair are specially selected to serve at Liturgies for the Bishop of Columbus. Because this is a position of honor, the server must exhibit modesty in speech when discussing this service with others.

3. The applicant must strive to be docile, humble, and disciplined in the life of Christian virtue.

4. The applicant must possess a friendly and brotherly attitude.

5. The applicant must be willing to help his peers to serve well at the Altar.

6. The applicant must be generous with his time to serve the Bishop at Saint Joseph Cathedral for particular Masses. (Time commitments will vary with the availability of each Knight, with the minimum of serving one or two Masses per month. There is no expectation that a student will miss classes.)

7. The applicant possesses good listening skills, is able to follow detailed instructions, and can be flexible in a moment’s notice.

8. Transportation to the Cathedral is to be arranged by each Knight for himself.

9. The applicant must be committed to attend Knights of the Chair meetings, training sessions, rehearsals, and other occasional events and to serve at Masses on a rotational basis.

I have read and understood all the above requirements and responsibilities and I agree to fulfill them to the utmost of my ability. I understand that it is not necessary to possess prior experience as an altar server and am willing to be trained. I further understand that failure to maintain the proper code of conduct minimally outlined above can result in dismissal from the Knights at the discretion of the Director of Divine Worship for the Diocese of Columbus and his St. Charles Prep faculty assistants.

I understand that my son is applying to be a member of the Knights of the Chair in order to serve the Bishop of Columbus at Saint Joseph Cathedral and other possible special events. I have read the requirements and responsibilities above. I recognize the time commitment required on his part. I give permission for him to apply and be part of the Knights of the Chair and will support him in carrying out his responsibilities.
