The Diocesan Director of Facilities is the consultant to the Diocese of Columbus regarding construction and maintenance problems. The Director reports directly to the Ordinary, Bishop Frederick F. Campbell, through the Vicar General, Monsignor Stephan J. Moloney. The office is located at 197 East Gay Street and is headed by Bruce Boylan.
The Director of Facilities is a member of the Diocesan Building Commission. The Director works with the parish priest, school principal, and building committees to plan any projects that may be required throughout the diocese. The Director inspects diocesan buildings and writes detailed reports of the inspection for review by the pastor and/or administrator and the bishop. The Director is also responsible for the monitoring and inspection of construction, remodeling, demolition and maintenance of diocesan buildings while not responsible for acting as a contractor. The Director communicates with code officials, local utilities, and local authorities concerning problems that may occur regarding property boundaries, utilities and code issues.
The Diocese of Columbus is self-insured and the Director of Facilities reviews all insurance claims involving damages to diocesan buildings. The Superintendent is responsible for approving any insurance claim that is less than $25,000. The Director works closely with the self-insurance program and monitors any insurance claims that exceed $25,000.
