Dear Friends in Christ:
May the Peace of our risen Lord be with you and your family. I offer you this greeting in the hope that you will receive the peace that only our Lord Jesus can give. As people of faith who are inspired by belief in eternal life, we in the Catholic Church are committed to treating the faithful departed with a profound respect. Burial in a Catholic Cemetery is an expression of the dignity and respect for our deceased, and the act of burying the dead is in fact one of the Corporal Works of Mercy and a vital ministry of the Church.
The Diocese of Columbus has set aside these sacred places in which our departed brothers and sisters may be laid to rest and await their glorious resurrection. Through the sacred rites of burial and entombment, the memory and presence of those buried here, and by the living who offer prayers and thanksgiving, this ground is truly blessed. Catholic Cemeteries are places where we find consolation amidst sorrow. Here the living and dead are joined in the mysterious communion of saints.
Here in the Diocese of Columbus, we are fortunate to have Catholic cemeteries staffed by understanding and compassionate men and women who are dedicated to assisting our people in time of need. They also strive to care for these sacred places in a way that maintains their natural beauty and spiritual environment. It is my hope that the following pages will provide helpful information for you. They also provide you with information about the regulations that govern our Catholic cemeteries.
Be assured of my prayers for you and your family, and may the souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace forever.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan
Bishop of Columbus
