Courageous Conversations: moving from dialogue to action

Unity in Community: Courageous Conversations is an in-depth dialogue on racism and cultural sensitivity is facilitated by leaders of various ministries in the diocese. The goal is to build relationships (cross-cultural and cross-parish), raise awareness, enhance communications, deepen understandings between individuals and groups, and to develop strategies for action and change in the community. The program is divided in six sessions, 90 minutes each, and includes an examination of pastoral letters and Church documents advocating for racial justice and reconciliation.

As our community continues to grapple with the sin of racism, we are providing a process for:

  1. small-group deliberation
  2. foster forgiveness and healing
  3. increase understanding and awareness
  4. enhance communications between individuals and groups
  5. increase understanding and trust
  6. build relationships across barriers
  7. develop strategies for action and change in the community

What is the value in participating in this program?

  1. It helps people connect their experience to their beliefs
  2. It helps people to see common concerns
  3. It fosters new relationships and networks
  4. It fosters vision and the possibility of change
  5. It can lead to some social or political action
  6. A sustainable program that moves a community from dialogue to action
  7. On-going support, as needed, from the diocese
