On December 30, 2016, Catholic Dioceses around the United States welcomed the revised marriage rite, "The Order of Celebrating Matrimony". The new rite is faithful to the translation of the Roman Missal, inclusive of cultural rituals, and places greater emphasis on the communitarian nature of the Sacrament. Through the addition of new Scripture text and additional prayer options, the rite invites the couple to be married to share in the planning of their wedding liturgy.
To assist both the clergy, wedding planners and the faithful, The Office for Divine Worship has developed a guidebook for planning a wedding liturgy within the Diocese of Columbus. The guidebook includes planning forms for the various rites which can be filled out electronically and downloaded for printing. In addition a template for a worship aide for celebrating matrimony within the Mass have been developed which also can be downloaded, personalized and printed. All of these resources are meant to assist those planning their wedding with invaluable aides for this once in a lifetime event.
