FACILITIES PROJECT MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager position will work with the Director of Facilities through which he/she is responsible for assisting the Priests, Principals and their respective staffs throughout the Diocese in helping to maintain the Parish and Schools buildings and grounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist the Parish Priests, School Principals and their Facility Staff with any concern or question they have regarding the buildings and grounds of their respective properties. 
  2. Have oversite as an owner’s representative of Parish and School projects that have been approved through the Diocese approval process. 
  3. Ability to travel to various locations throughout the 23 counties that encompass the Diocese of Columbus. 
  4. Must maintain an Asbestos Project Manager/Inspector certificate and an Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist license with the EPA.
  5. Ability to assist in new construction projects from beginning stages through completion, including attending all pre-construction, MEP, and OAC meetings.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of safety and security plans as they pertain to facilities owned and operated by the Diocese.
  7. Participate in site plan reviews and on-site inspections of assigned renovation projects ensuring compliance with the diocese’s policies as well as federal and state regulations.
  8. Assist in building inspections, including but not limited to: PCA, asbestos and structural. 
  9. Resolve problems, situations or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
  10. Attend staff meetings, diocesan meetings, and other meetings as appropriate and requested.
  11. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory standards and diocesan policies related to the buildings and ground’s function including OSHA requirements, EPA requirements and the like.  Recommends and implements changes to methods and processes as necessary.
  12. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this job.

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Must be familiar with Microsoft office and outlook.
  2. Must be able to use smartphone applications for job related functions, such as Horizon Building 
  3. Inspection, and “Trello” project management. 
  4. Complies with federal, state and local safety laws.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.  Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and current automobile insurance coverage to include a $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence coverage for Bodily Injury and $100,000 Property Damage or a Combined Single Limit of $300,000.  State of Ohio Asbestos Management Planner certification,  Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory standards and school policies related to building and grounds maintenance, OSHA, EPA, Health requirements, and the like. Must have appropriate and reliable means of transportation. Must have cell phone.

 Education:  High School degree is required.  

 Experience:  The candidate must have 3 to 5 years of previous related experience; mechanical training and certification is preferred.

 Job Related Skills: Strong basic knowledge in facilities management and be a self-starter; demonstrated supervisory skills to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of assigned function(s); ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner; interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with Diocesan staff, parents, external contractors, and others in the exchange of information; project management skills necessary to successfully implement a variety of energy and environmental safety projects; analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner; computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents and reports. Other required skills include ability to multi-task and establish priorities, exhibit initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.  

Interpersonal Skills:  The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.   

 Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend equipment manuals and instructions, write short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to communicate effectively to customers, clients, and other employees of the Diocese.

 Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 Working Environment: This position requires frequent travel to the various facilities of the diocese located in 23 counties.  The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.

 PHYSICAL STRENGTH DEMANDS

The Physical Demands Strength Rating reflects the estimated overall strength requirement of the job.  It represents the strength requirements, which are considered important for average, successful work performance.  

 Medium Work:  Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.   Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Medium Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
