JOB SUMMARY

St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Westerville, Ohio, seeks qualified candidates for the Coordinator of Religious Education, Grades K-2 position within the Parish School of Religion. The Coordinator of Elementary Religion K-2 will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the religious education and First Communion preparation of the St Paul Parish School of Religion Community, primarily focusing on the catechetical formation for elementary children. The Elementary Coordinator will collaborate with coordinators in grades 3-8 and the Director of Religious Education.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the planning and implementing of a comprehensive catechetical program for grades K-2, including formation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion
  • Develops and maintains a sequential catechetical process with appropriate materials for grades K-2.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains the curriculum.
  • Assists with scheduling and implementation of registration for students each year.
  • Encourages a sense of community among the students and between the students and other dimensions of parish life.
  • Ensures a solid commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
  • Focuses on parents as the first teachers of the faith by involving the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of family sessions/events for the parish as needed by incorporating intentional ways for engaging parents and
  • families in faith formation that include hospitality, prayer, learning, and service
  • opportunities.
  • Recruits and supervises catechists and volunteers, ensuring ongoing development opportunities.
  • Assists catechists with religious education lesson plans.
  • Provides ongoing support to Catechists, Aides, and other volunteers.
  • Monitors volunteers during class time.
  • Sets up and prepares each week for classes.
  • Assists with monitoring programs while in session including checking classrooms, supervising, acquiring materials, behavior management, student supervision, and safety.
  • Communicates weekly and as needed with grade-level volunteers and parents, including weekly lessons, resources, assignments, and activities for families to complete together.
  • Assists with the implementation of special projects when needed.
  • Assists with meetings organized and facilitated by the Office of Religious Education.
  • Assists with implementing the Parish Summer Program (Vacation Bible School, Totus Tuus) as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The Coordinator of Religious Education, K-2, must live in full sacramental communion with the Catholic Church. The ideal candidate possesses an Undergraduate Degree in religious studies, education, or related field. Teaching experience in religious education is preferred. Previous experience assisting in some component of a parish faith formation program is desirable. This person must be competent in applying age-appropriate catechetical methods and basic program development and exhibit skills in interpersonal communication, collaborative ministry, and public speaking. Completing the Protecting God's Children program and appropriate background checks are required.
  • Applicants must be able to work on Wednesday afternoons and evenings during scheduled class sessions. This position also includes evening and weekend hours for the celebration of the sacraments, as well as catechist, parents' meetings, and events preparing for the celebration of the sacraments.
