It is with a profound sadness, especially as we begin Holy Week, that I have learned today of the tragic fire which has engulfed Paris’s Cathedral of Notre-Dame. The loss of this majestic house of worship, which has stood in the city for centuries, is unbelievable. We pray that those working on the Cathedral as the fire began and those now combating the flames remain safe during this tragic event. We express our deep sorrow to Catholics throughout France and worldwide and to the citizens of Paris on what may be the loss of this great structure.
