Juneteenth 2022

Freedom Day!

The Diocese of Columbus along with our African American brothers and sisters celebrate the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States of America and the beginning of freedom for so many in this land of opportunity.

It is with great admiration that the Catholic Church applauds the strong faith that brought our African American brothers and sisters through extreme hardship and adversity. We reaffirm our solidarity with them along their journey of faith in the pursuit of a more just society.

Although we ring the bells of freedom, there are still those who remain marginalized by discrimination, economic inequality, lack of affordable housing, and limited access to healthcare.

Racism has no place in the Catholic Church or in society. The Word of God became man to save not a select few, but all of humanity.

As a new era begins in the Diocese of Columbus, let us walk together as brothers and sisters, praying for an end to the oppression of all people and for continued healing in our families and communities.

On this Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we remember that the Eucharist is the cause and effect of our unity.

Let us pray for the unity of all peoples.
